Quotes: “With all time arts it’s incredibly important to how you open and close… You have to have a clear beginning and ending.”
Three Words: Storytelling, Emotion, Psychedelic
Most Interesting: The most interesting part of Kathy Rose’s lecture was her honesty and self-contradictions. Kathy was very honest when asked about her work and admitted to not knowing what it was about and created the works from her conscious. She mentioned how much she hates “art speak” and stated “If you can articulate what you’re doing why use it?” She also said she finds grant writing as a great way to learn about oneself and forces you to articulate what you are doing. Kathy stated that she finds it very hard to repeat herself and that she doesn’t think she will go back to using hand animation yet to me her works has many common themes and imagery running through it. Kathy’s contradictions in her speech versus her work made me interested in her as an artist and caused me to wonder if that was part of her performance or what her work was truly based around. I am still unsure if her work is about contradictions but I feel that it may be with her use of puppetry and large guiding hands and other seemingly uncontrollable forces on the human condition.
The piece that worked the best for me was her “She” video because I felt like her use of the computer was more evolved and less distracting as a medium compared to her earlier work.

Further Questions: I wish I could have formed my reaction to her work sooner and had the opportunity to question her contradictions on why she continues to use the same elements and themes in her work such as herself yet she says she cannot repeat herself. I would also ask her thoughts about why it is good to discover why you are making your work yet when you do discover it your point of making work becomes worthless.
