Your work often deals with technology and the effects on society. Do you believe that technologies such as the modern automobile have created a negative reciprocity causing environmental issues followed by commuter congestion and so forth or have they created a positive effect causing people to venture further and to connect with more people than before?

With younger generations seeing automobiles as a sign of pollution and excess the automobile manufacturers are learning that their past marketing strategies aren’t working. They are developing smaller more economical cars to appeal to younger generations in response. Do you feel that this is a step in the right direction or do you believe that alternative fuels or mass transit options are the solution? Unanswered
When you approach a project do you have a statement or question you want to tell to your audience and then begin creating the work to support your concept or do you find yourself creating work from the subconscious and then finding questions and themes as you complete a piece?
Answer: Miguel enjoys changing his work path, working on several different projects at the same time and with different mediums. In the end he finds they all mix together to create a synchronous message.

I found this quote from Miguel to be particularly important because it really speaks to his success. His interests and passion are what drives him to continue to produce extravagant and intricate work for twenty plus years. Without having a personal interest and having fun while doing it his work would most likely be meaningless. It reminds me that I must work on what my passion is no matter how hard or against the grain it may be. Without being yourself you are only lost.
Three Words:
Three words that describe the artist’s practice and artwork are, awareness, motion, connectivity.
Most Interesting:
Miguel didn’t think much of art or even think he was making art when he began creating. He didn’t know what he was doing and then he continued to work until he made it to where he is today. He learned that he is interested in the construction, destruction and reconstruction of life and tends to work with that theme through the medium of transportation. Transportation to him is all about connectivity and how we move through life. Everything is in motion, either decay or physically moving. Even still photographs are moving as the pigments of ink dry and fade. His thoughts inspired me to continue to work in several mediums such as photography, graphic design, sculpture and video. Working with such complexity, Miguel collaborates with biologists, physicists, and engineers. I found this to be compelling that he allows the control of his project to be in the hands of others along with himself. This also speaks to his idea of connectivity.
Most Compelling Image:
I found his work using the pollution of a car to paint a landscape most compelling. The process he uses once again reinforces the idea of everything is in motion, everything is connected and everything goes in cycles. The cars carbon emissions were used to draw an outline of trees on paper.
Further Questions:
I am curious if he plans on making art about the new ways people connect such as the internet and mobile phones instead of only the physical methods of transportation.
